About Me

"A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed."

- Ansel Adams

With nearly seven years of photography experience, I am a storm and landscape photographer based out of Watertown, South Dakota. I travel around the United States documenting anything Mother Nature provides, supercell thunderstorms, tornadoes, and the aurora borealis. Welcome!

My Story

(kind of)

My name is Alex Resel, I started my photography journey in 2015 when my interest in weather began to ramp up. At the time, I was only focused on the weather so that was my primary focus in regards to photography. It wasn't until January 2017 when I worked with my first digital camera as part of a photo class during my sophomore year of high school. By that time, I was beginning to explore other areas of photography such as landscapes and astrophotography (photography of the night sky). Because I had already been teaching myself two years prior, I already had some of the basics of a digital camera down, but still a little paranoid of the dreaded Manual mode. Not anymore. After a couple more years of practice, I would enroll at Lake Area Tech, earn my business degree in photo media, and start up my business. I continue to enjoy what I do!

Today, I continue to focus on weather primarily. From blizzards and tornadoes to the aurora borealis, I'll most likely be documenting it. Storm chasing has become part of my life and I am looking forward to continuing that journey for as long as possible. A couple other interests of mine include, drone flying and traveling. If you already know me, you know how much I enjoy traveling even if it's just for an hour. It's a great way to take a break from life stresses and enjoy the open road while exploring the world around you!

My Journey in the USA...

(May 2020 - September 2023)

Above is a custom map highlighting the counties I have traveled through, including those I have chased in, counties I have seen a tornado (or multiple) in, and my home county. Thousands upon thousands of miles driven across the United States of America to capture almost every photograph you will discover on this site. It's important to note that not every county I have traveled through in my life is marked on this map. This map is strictly focused on my photography journey when I began to independently travel to capture my work. The map starts in 2020 and goes through the end of May 2023.

Of course, all of this traveling is expensive in more ways than one. With your support, you can provide me the opportunity to grow my journey by checking out my print store and purchasing a print or two by clicking here!

Thank you for your support!
